Hero Special Constable Bags Top Award After Clocking 435 Hours on Duty

Mason Beall has smashed it as a special constable, putting in a staggering 435 hours on the frontline in just a few months. His hard graft didn’t go unnoticed — last year, he landed a full-time police job and now, he’s been crowned Special Constable of the Year at the prestigious Nottinghamshire Police Force Awards.

Mason’s Passion Pays Off

The 20-year-old was humble about his win. “I feel really privileged to have won this award. I didn’t realise I had been nominated for it to begin with, I was simply doing what I was passionate about, as do all Special Constables across the force,” he said.

Special constables volunteer part-time but have the same powers and duties as regular officers. They patrol the streets, target crime hotspots, and lead crime prevention projects.

Dedication Beyond the Call of Duty

On top of the 435 hours as a special constable, Mason also gave 97 hours as a cadet leader in 2021/22. His contribution has been crucial in keeping communities safer.

Special Sergeant Rory Simpson, who nominated Mason, praised him:

“Mason is simply brilliant. He works really hard within Nottinghamshire Police to ensure he can help others wherever he can. He often took extra time to run cadet sessions at short notice — never once complaining.”

“He inspired young cadets by sharing his policing experiences and gave up over 400 hours of his free time supporting police operations and engagement events.”

“Mason engaged with hundreds of young people, answering questions, offering advice, and even showed students around police vehicles and kit. Some said Mason inspired them to join the police.”
