Fire Breaks Out at Highgate Railway Yard – Tube Station Shut
Six fire engines and 40 firefighters raced to tackle a blaze on Archway Road in Highgate yesterday afternoon. The fire broke out just after 3pm in a derelict building near the railway yard, prompting the temporary closure of Highgate Underground Station.
Road Closed – Avoid the Area
Authorities shut the road to traffic and urged drivers to find alternative routes while emergency crews battled the flames. Locals were advised to steer clear of the affected zone as fire crews worked at full tilt.
Firefighters Bring Blaze Under Control
A London Fire Brigade spokesman confirmed: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a building on Archway Road in Highgate today (05 May). Half of the first floor of the derelict building was damaged. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.”
The Brigade handled 25 emergency calls about the fire. Crews in breathing apparatus battled the blaze, which was brought under control just over an hour after first being reported at 3.01pm.
Fire teams from Hornsey, Kentish Town, Holloway, West Hampstead, and Finchley all attended the scene.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unclear. Fire officials have launched an investigation to determine how the flames started.
