On Friday 1 September 2023, local officers teamed up with Kent Special Constabulary in response to concerns reported by the community regarding vehicles in the area.

In Dymchurch Road, officers stopped a car and spoke to a driver who failed a drugs test. The 24-year-old man from Faversham was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He was released on bail until 27 November pending further enquiries.

Four drivers were stopped and reported for not wearing seatbelts. Another two will be facing action for using their mobile phone while driving. One person was reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and another was reported for a registration plate offence.

Inspector James Wyles of Folkestone and Hythe Community Safety Unit, said: ‘Those reported for offences will now face a wait to see what action is taken against them for their offending.

‘Wearing a seatbelt and not using your phone are two very simple actions which if followed, keep the roads safe for everyone and mean drivers avoid potential court action.

‘Everyone has a part to play when it comes to road safety and I would urge people to consider that before they get behind the wheel.

‘Officers plan to carry out similar operations in the near future as part of our Safer Autumn campaign, to help reduce the risk of fatalities on the road.’
