Eastbourne Coastguard Battles Tractor Blaze in Swift Response
In a bizarre twist during their routine patrols on Friday, December 22, Eastbourne Coastguard found themselves first on the scene of a tractor fire. What started as a standard check quickly turned into a fiery emergency on Beachy Head Road, East Dean.
Quick-Thinking Crew Calls in the Fire Brigade
Spotting the tractor engulfed in flames, the Coastguard immediately alerted emergency services and requested backup from the local fire brigade. While waiting for the firefighters, they took charge of managing the scene, keeping the public safe and clearing the way for emergency vehicles.
15 Tonnes of Hay Lost in Fierce Fire
The fire quickly intensified, destroying the tractor’s haystacks — a staggering 15 tonnes of hay—and its trailer. Luckily, thanks to rapid action and tight coordination between emergency teams, no one was hurt.
“At 12.20pm, we responded to a call regarding a tractor fire on Beachy Head Road, East Dean,”
said a spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS).
“Our crews found a blaze engulfing 15 tonnes of hay and a trailer. We worked to control the fire using a continuous water jet for safety.
Thankfully, there were no casualties.”
The quick response from Eastbourne Coastguard and ESFRS prevented what could have been a much worse disaster.
