Wrong-Way Car Collision on the A2  Leads to Arrest on Suspicion of Drink Driving

A dramatic incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, 28th January, as police responded to reports of a car travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway on the A2 in Bexleyheath.

The alarming situation escalated when the misguided vehicle collided with another car. Authorities were alerted to the unfolding events at approximately 5am

In response to the concerning reports, officers promptly sprang into action. While en route to the scene, additional information came in, confirming that a collision had indeed occurred between the wrong-way car and another vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle travelling in the wrong direction was swiftly apprehended by the police. He was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

As a precautionary measure, the detained driver was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. At present, he remains in police custody at a south London police station.

In light of the incident and the ongoing investigation, a section of the road was temporarily closed to traffic. This was to ensure the safety of both road users and to facilitate the investigative process.

A Spokesman for the Met Police said:

Police were called at about 04:55hrs on Sunday, 28 January to reports of a car travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway on the A2 in Bexleyheath.

While en route, officers were informed that the car had collided with a second vehicle.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to a hospital as a precaution. He remains in custody at a south London police station.

The road was partially closed to traffic.
