A crash on the M20 has brought traffic to a crawl. A lorry slammed into a bridge support and central reservation between Junction 8 (Maidstone) and Junction 9 (Ashford), triggering a multi-vehicle pile-up on Tuesday evening.

One lane remains shut, leaving drivers stuck in long queues both ways.

Lane Closure to Continue as Repairs Get Underway

National Highways says the westbound M20 reopened early Wednesday, but the third lane still isn’t back in action. Emergency barrier repairs are ongoing and expected to last all day, with further work planned overnight.

A spokesman said: “The lane closure will stay in place throughout the day. The eastbound side has reopened after earlier roadworks.”

Four Vehicles, No Injuries

Fire crews confirmed four vehicles took part in the crash. Luckily, no one was hurt.

“No firefighting was needed on arrival,” said a fire service spokesman. “We helped Kent Police secure the area.”

National Highways added: “The lorry hit a bridge support and the central reservation, scattering debris. The clean-up will take time, but thankfully no injuries have been reported.”

Expect Delays – Plan Your Journey

  • Heavy traffic and long delays expected between Junctions 8 and 9.
  • Keep up with National Highways and local updates for progress.
  • Consider alternative routes to dodge the disruption.
