Crash on M20 Brings Traffic to a Standstill
A lorry smashed into a bridge support and central reservation between Junction 8 (Maidstone) and Junction 9 (Ashford) on Tuesday evening, sparking a multi-vehicle pile-up. The collision has forced one lane to shut, causing gridlock in both directions.
Lane Closure to Keep Drivers Held Up as Repairs Continue
National Highways confirmed the westbound M20 reopened early Wednesday but one lane remains closed for emergency barrier repairs that will last all day. Additional overnight work is also planned.
“The lane closure will stay in place throughout the day. The eastbound side has reopened after earlier roadworks,” a spokesman said.
Four Vehicles Involved – But No Injuries
Fire crews revealed four vehicles were involved in the crash, but miraculously no one was hurt.
“No firefighting was needed on arrival. We helped Kent Police secure the area,” said a fire service spokesman.
National Highways added, “The lorry hit a bridge support and the central reservation, scattering debris. The clean-up will take time, but thankfully no injuries have been reported.”
