A bomb scare sparked chaos in Margate yesterday after a suspicious item was found inside a flat on Rosedale Road. Police quickly sealed off the area, sending locals into lockdown for hours.

MoD Bomb Squad Called In for Controlled Explosion

Kent Police were alerted around 4pm on Wednesday, October 8, following reports of suspicious objects inside a property. The scene was immediately cordoned off as a safety precaution.

The Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived to tackle the threat. They safely carried out a controlled explosion, wrapping up the operation near midnight. Residents were allowed back to their homes once the area was declared safe.

Teen Arrested in Connection with Firearms Offences

Meanwhile, police arrested a teenager linked to firearms offences under the Firearms Act. He remains in custody as inquiries progress.

“We appreciate this was an unusual incident, which left some residents directly impacted as a result. Thank you to those people affected for their patience while we worked with EOD to make the scene safe. Emergency services will remain in the area to carry out further enquiries, but we are treating this as an isolated incident and have no wider concern for public safety,” said Chief Inspector Ian Swallow.
