Tragedy struck in Stafford this morning as two young children were found dead in a house on Corporation Street. Police have identified the victims as Meraj Ul Zahra, 2, and Abdul Momin Alfaateh, 3.

Horrific Scenes in Quiet Stafford Street

The children were discovered unresponsive at 7.30am, sparking shock and grief in the neighbourhood. Terraced houses opposite St George’s mental health hospital remain cordoned off while forensic teams comb the scene.

Witnesses described the harrowing moments as emergency services arrived. A man believed to be the father was seen devastated, unable to carry an older child who was calmly taken into a police car by officers.

Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

A 43-year-old Stafford woman has been arrested in connection with the deaths. Police are working tirelessly to piece together what led to this heartbreaking loss.

Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield said: “We are working hard to understand what happened leading up to these two children tragically losing their lives. We urge people not to speculate, as it distressing for family and friends and could hinder our enquiries.”

“We do not believe there is any wider risk to the public at this time.”

Community in Shock

Local bookshop owner Luke Browne, 61, told Metro: “It’s very sad. Children dying is a horror. It’s quite painful to hear it.”

Neighbours expressed disbelief and sorrow:

  • “I woke up to this news and it sent a chill down my spine. It’s a terrible shock, just horrible,” one said.
  • “The first we knew something was wrong was the sirens. Later, I saw the older child being taken away in a police car. The father was too distraught to carry him; the police helped.”

Emergency Services Response

West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances and paramedics to the scene. Unfortunately, both children were pronounced dead at the property.

The investigation continues as authorities appeal for calm in the community.
