Vietnamese Man Jailed Over Modern Slavery and Massive Cannabis Factory
A 31-year-old Vietnamese national, Dung Nguyen, has been locked up for three years and seven months for running a huge cannabis farm and enslaving a man through violence and threats.
Fraud and Fear: Nguyen’s Dark Operation
Between March and July 2024, Nguyen used fake documents to secure a tenancy on Manor Road, Rugby. He then forced a man in his twenties to manage a sprawling cannabis factory inside the property.
Nguyen kept his victim under brutal control, threatening the man and his family. The victim lived in terror for months before bravely reaching out to the public, sparking a police investigation.
Four-County Police Raid Brings Down Drug Empire
Following a tip-off, police swooped on Nguyen’s Derbyshire home on 9 April, arresting him during a warrant execution. Simultaneous raids hit properties across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, West Yorkshire, and Chesterfield.
Officers seized large amounts of drugs and uncovered evidence of document fraud linked to Nguyen’s operation.
Prison Time and Deportation for Nguyen
Nguyen admitted to charges including holding a person in slavery, cannabis production, and fraud by false representation. On Thursday 9 October, Warwick Crown Court sentenced him to over three years behind bars.
He faces deportation once he completes his sentence, ending his reign of fear.
