Paedophile Groomed Girl on TikTok Before Rape
Gary Sheilds, 37, has been slammed with a nine-year prison sentence for raping a 12-year-old girl he groomed online. He targeted the young victim on TikTok, then moved their chats to WhatsApp and Snapchat before meeting her in person and attacking her.
Online Grooming Escalated to Horrific Assault
Sheilds, living in Scotland at the time, began messaging the girl on TikTok in January 2024. Using flattery, he quickly won her trust and convinced her to share her phone number. Video calls soon followed as their contact shifted to WhatsApp and Snapchat.
On 2 February, Sheilds arranged to meet the child in Penwortham. He drove her to a secluded car park where he subjected her to rape and sexual assault. The nightmare was only uncovered after the girl’s parents found disturbing messages on her phone.
Denies Assault but Admits School Uniform, Drug Use, and Possible Attraction
Sheilds admitted speaking to the girl but denied any assault. He claimed he knew she was underage but couldn’t remember exactly how young she was. Shockingly, he said she was probably still in her school uniform during their meeting.
During police questioning, Sheilds blamed drug addiction and suggested he “could be” sexually attracted to children at the time.
On Bail, Breaks No-Contact Orders and Builds Damning Case
At the time of the offence, Sheilds was already on bail from Police Scotland with strict orders not to contact anyone under 16. Authorities found indecent images and videos of the victim on his devices, plus photos and Google searches including her school name.
Guilty Plea Lands Him Nine Years Behind Bars
Following talks with the Crown Prosecution Service, Sheilds was charged with raping a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity. He pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court on 16 July 2025.
The judge handed down a brutal nine-year prison sentence, plus a one-year licence on release.
This chilling case is a stark warning about the hidden dangers lurking behind social media’s innocent facade.
