A303 Shut After Distressed Person Spotted on Wiltshire Bridge
Chaos on the A303 this morning as police shut the road in both directions near Mere. The dramatic move was sparked after a person was seen in distress on a bridge, prompting a major emergency response just after 5am on Saturday.
Police Lock Down Key Wiltshire Route Near Mere
Officers rushed to Manor Road in Mere following reports of a mental health-related incident. The closure affects the A303 Mere Bypass between the B3092 and Chaddenwick Hill, blocking all traffic.
Motorists are now being rerouted through Mere town. The westbound slip road into Mere remains open, but the eastbound slip road has been sealed off.
Wiltshire Police spokesperson: “Please be advised the A303 is currently closed in both directions near Mere as we are assisting with a mental health-related incident at Manor Road over-bridge. The westbound slip road into Mere remains open but the eastbound slip road is closed. Seek alternative routes at this time – we will update this post once the road has reopened.”
