No Greater Anglia trains are running between Liverpool Street, Stratford, and Hertford East after a raging water main burst at Rye House station. The disaster submerged tracks and wrecked signalling equipment, grinding services to a halt.

Services Suspended Until Christmas Eve

The flooding struck on December 17 and was originally expected to clear by the 19th. But National Rail has slammed the brakes on hopes of a quick fix, warning normal services won’t return until December 24 — just in time to ruin Christmas travel plans for many.

Replacement Buses Running, But Travel Cautioned

A limited bus service is running between Broxbourne and Hertford East, but passengers are urged to avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary. National Rail advises everyone to seek alternative routes wherever possible to avoid further disruption.

Complex Repairs Behind Extended Delays

National Rail explained the chaotic situation: “The flooding’s extensive damage, the tricky challenge of stopping the water, plus cleaning and fixing both track and signalling means repairs will take several days.”

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said: “Greater Anglia would like to apologise to all passengers who have had their journeys disrupted by this incident.”
