A 26-year-old Afghan prisoner at Wormwood Scrubs jail has gone viral after flaunting his cushy cell life. Samiullah Ahmadzai, held on migrant smuggling charges, shows off luxurious treats, TV watching, and an Afghan flag decorating his cell.
Prison Perks Spark Outrage
Ahmadzai’s TikTok clips have racked up thousands of views, revealing a smorgasbord of snacks including chocolate bars, fizzy drinks, fruit, and sausages. One video even shows him watching Stephen Mulhern’s Deal or No Deal, raising eyebrows about the leniency inside the prison walls.
Surge in Small Boat Crossings Continues
- Last year saw 41,472 migrants cross the Channel in small boats.
- This year’s numbers are already at 36,816 and rising.
Despite government promises, Home Office adviser Henry Mahmood warned that new policy reforms will take time to curb the influx. He added there are no guarantees the migrant flows will drop next year.
Rwanda Refugee Plan Abandoned
Breaking with past policy, Labour leader Keir Starmer scrapped the controversial Rwanda asylum deal shortly after last year’s election. The plan, which aimed to send failed asylum seekers to East Africa, was meant to stop dangerous channel crossings.
Instead, the UK is relying on the UK-France ‘one in, one out’ pilot scheme that limits returns to France. The deal is due to expire in June amid political uncertainty ahead of France’s presidential election. Experts doubt any quick renegotiation to continue repatriations will happen.
