David Chandler Locked Up After Shocking Abuse Case
A 56-year-old man, David Chandler, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison after being found guilty of coercive controlling behaviour, strangulation, and assault in Hampshire.
Chandler’s crimes took place between June 2024 and June 2025, targeting a woman he was in a relationship with. The case was heard at Portsmouth Crown Court, where, after an eight-day trial, the jury convicted him on all charges.
Controlling Every Aspect of the Victim’s Life
The court revealed how Chandler controlled the woman’s entire life. He:
- Monitored her comings and goings, setting strict time limits.
- Constantly checked her phone and dictated who she could talk to.
- Controlled her clothing choices and even forced her to have breast surgery to please him.
- Restricted her from speaking to men and accused her of inappropriate behaviour.
- Threatened to damage her home and family’s property.
His domination extended to the victim’s business, where he:
- Forced a business name change.
- Banned male customers.
- Controlled services and signage.
- Forced social media account deletions.
- Damaged business property.
He also humiliated her in front of clients, forcing her to degrade herself.
Physical Violence Behind Closed Doors
The jury heard chilling details of physical abuse. Chandler:
- Intentionally strangled the victim multiple times.
- Grabbed her head, slapped her, pulled her hair, and restrained her physically.
Detective Constable Andrew Mason said: “Chandler’s behaviour is shocking and abhorrent. He terrorised the victim physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. This sentence is well-deserved.”
He added, “The victim’s bravery in supporting the investigation was key. Without her courage, Chandler might not be behind bars today.”
