Random Knife Murder Shocks Cambridge
A brutal attack sent shockwaves through Cambridge last August when 20-year-old Mohammed Algasim was fatally stabbed in a random assault right outside student housing near the city train station.
Unprovoked Stabbing Caught on Camera
Mohammed, a Saudi student on a ten-week English course, was sitting with friends when attacker Chas Corrigan approached. CCTV footage reveals Corrigan saying something before walking off. Moments later, he stormed back, furious, demanding, “What did you say?” before slashing Mohammed across the neck with a large kitchen knife.
Prosecutor Slams “Senseless” Act
Prosecutor Nicholas Hearn told the court Corrigan had been drinking and possibly on drugs. He branded the stabbing “an unprovoked and senseless act of violence” against an innocent student who posed no threat.
- Mohammed died from a single neck stab that severed arteries, causing massive blood loss.
- There was no prior connection or dispute between the two men.
Sentencing Due Amid Public Outcry
Corrigan faces sentencing this Wednesday. The case has sparked anger and fear as locals condemn the shocking, random killing of a young international student studying peacefully in Cambridge.
