Armed police sealed off Calders in a tense stand-off that lasted hours on Monday.
Knife Attack Sparks Major Police Lockdown
A man has been charged in connection with a frightening knife incident in Edinburgh’s Calders area that left two injured. Armed officers rushed to Calder Gardens just after 8.30am on Monday after reports of a man waving a bladed weapon.
A man suffered stab wounds described as non-life-threatening while a woman sustained a head laceration, though police say her injury was not caused by a knife. Both victims have since been discharged from the hospital.
Hours-Long Standoff At Tower Block
The suspect vanished into a nearby tower block at Cobbinshaw House, sparking a tense standoff lasting nearly seven hours. Locals daringly confronted the armed man with a spirit level, while Lothian Buses rerouted services to avoid the lockdown zone.

Eventually, armed police stormed the block and arrested a man matching the suspect’s description, who was seen earlier carrying two large knives and wearing a cream top and black backpack.
Police Clear the Air: No Threat To Schools
Scottish police confirmed the incident is not terror related and urged the public to stop spreading false information. Chief Inspector Scott Kennedy said:
“I’m aware misinformation continues to be shared online which could cause distress. We did NOT receive reports of a man trying to enter any nursery or school, and this was NOT a hostage situation.”
Police maintain a presence in Calders to reassure locals as the suspect is set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
