A man in his 60s has tragically died after a medical emergency near Devizes School this morning.
Emergency Rush at Devizes Leisure Centre
At around 8.30am on Wednesday, emergency services raced to Southbroom Road after a man suffered a cardiac arrest at Devizes Leisure Centre, right next to the secondary school.
As pupils arrived, teachers swiftly brought them indoors to clear the area for paramedics and police.
All Efforts Fail to Save Man
Despite a rapid response from two ambulance crews, critical care medics, the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, and officers on scene, the man was pronounced dead at the site.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with his family at this time,” said a Wiltshire Police spokesperson.
School Calms Parents After Incident
Devizes School reassured parents there was no lockdown. They thanked everyone for their cooperation and stressed the need to keep pavements clear for emergency vehicles.
“Please rest assured, at no point was school in a lockdown scenario this morning, however when an emergency situation arises outside school, we will always endeavour to bring children in as quickly as we can,” said a school spokesperson.
