A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Eastbourne as part of a major counterterror probe. Police suspect he showed support for the extremist group Daesh on social media.

Counter Terror Team Makes Arrest

Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) swooped on the local man on Friday, March 6. He’s been detained under the Terrorism Act 2000 for expressing opinions supportive of a banned organisation.

The arrest is linked to an ongoing Islamist terror investigation and followed posts made online. The suspect remains in police custody as enquiries continue. Meanwhile, a property search is underway in Eastbourne.

Police Reassure Public Amidst Investigation

The operation was led by CTPSE with Sussex Police backing them. Chief Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw said:

“I appreciate arrests like this can unsettle the community, but Sussex Police have worked closely with Counter Terrorism Policing South East on this pre-planned operation. There’s no immediate threat to the public, but anyone with concerns should get in touch with police.”
