A man who harassed and sexually assaulted three women in Southampton has been locked up for three years. Sohail Amiri, 30, preyed on women in broad daylight and the early hours, trying to force unwanted kisses and assaulting them despite their protests.
Chilling Attacks on Southampton Women
On the early morning of November 25 last year, Amiri targeted a woman walking on Upper Shaftesbury Avenue, Portswood. He started following her, calling her “beautiful” and begging for “just one kiss.” When she refused, he grabbed her wrist and tried to force himself on her. She fought back and escaped.
Two months earlier, on September 23, Amiri approached a woman in Westwood Road, Bevois, again asking for “just one kiss.” The woman ignored him. Later, a colleague revealed she had a similar encounter where the man also pushed her while demanding a kiss.
Police Crack Case with CCTV and DNA Evidence
Southampton officers used CCTV footage and tracked Amiri’s movements after the assault. DNA from saliva matched him, and his mobile phone showed he was at the crime scenes. This led to his arrest and charges.
Jail Time and Sexual Harm Prevention Order
Amiri pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, one attempted sexual assault, and entering the UK illegally. Southampton Crown Court sentenced him to three years in prison. Judge Nicholas Rowland also slapped him with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to keep the public safe.
