PC Charlie Cano has been swiftly dismissed without notice after taking part in disgraceful and discriminatory conversations about female members of the public at Charing Cross police station.
Damning Panorama Footage Exposes Disrespect
The misconduct hearing found PC Cano guilty of making disrespectful remarks and bragging about using force against a young female detainee. The scandal erupted after the BBC Panorama broadcast in October 2025 exposed inappropriate behaviour inside the station. Extra unaired footage was handed over to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), triggering a full investigation into the conduct of several officers at Charing Cross. The IOPC’s probe is ongoing.
Force Acts Fast to Clean Up Culture
Commander Simon Messinger, heading Professionalism, said:
“We moved swiftly to act upon the additional footage shared by the BBC to identify PC Cano, immediately suspend him from duty, and hold him to account for his appalling behaviour.
“Eight serving officers have been dismissed for their unacceptable conduct at Charing Cross and we continue to support the ongoing IOPC investigation.
“The robust action we are taking is part of our tireless work to raise standards and improve the culture across our organisation.”
Serious Breaches of Police Standards
The hearing ruled that PC Cano breached multiple standards of professional behaviour, including:
- Discreditable conduct
- Authority abuse
- Respect and courtesy failure
- Equality and diversity violations
This dramatic shake-up at Charing Cross is part of a wider crackdown to restore trust in the force. The IOPC investigation continues to unearth more damning evidence.
