Essex Police’s Serious and Organised Crime team has secured a combined 12-year jail term for two men convicted of supplying and possessing a 9mm Luger pistol and over 50 bullets in Essex. The firearm was handed over in Thornwood in July 2023, triggering a swift police response and a significant firearms seizure.
Thornwood Firearm Handover Crash Horror
In July 2023, authorities observed Naheem Hussain, 50, taking possession of a 9mm Luger pistol and ammunition in Duck Lane, Thornwood. Hussain was caught shortly after entering a taxi, which was stopped by armed officers on High Road, Epping. The search revealed a leather holster with the loaded pistol and a bag containing 51 rounds of live ammunition.
Epping Police Sting
Coordinated police action led to Hussain’s immediate arrest. He admitted possession of the firearm and ammunition, subsequently receiving a 5 year and 8-month prison sentence in June 2023 for his role in the fatal collision-related investigation.
Detectives Link Supplier Crash Horror
Following Hussain’s arrest, Essex detectives traced the firearm supply back to Steven Savva, 61. In October 2023, armed officers executed a warrant at a property connected to Savva, uncovering evidence linking him to the illegal possession and supply of the firearm.
Conviction At Chelmsford Crown Court
Despite denying all charges, Savva was convicted after a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court earlier this month. On 17 April, he was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for possession and supply of the firearm, reinforcing Essex Police’s commitment to tackling organised crime.
