A teenage girl who was raped in Southampton’s Palmerston Park in February 2023 has died just over a year later. Levi Davies, 19 at the time of the assault, was found dead at her flat from a fatal ketamine overdose. Police and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of her death.
Details Of The Attack
The assault happened in the early hours of 19 February 2023 when Levi, visiting Southampton after a night out, was approached by 28-year-old Rosario Dos Reis. He led her into the bushes and raped her. Dos Reis was later convicted and sentenced to eight years and four months in prison, plus an extended six-year licence period.
Family Speak Out
Levi’s mother Michelle Davies described the devastating impact on her daughter. “Over that year, as a family, we watched her shatter into pieces,” she said. “Levi was incredibly strong, but she was also broken. She wanted to forget, but the nightmares never left her.”
Legal Action And Aftermath
Levi’s victim impact statement before her death described the assault as a “life sentence” she did not deserve. A Home Office spokesperson confirmed deportation proceedings will be pursued against the offender. Her family hopes Levi’s story raises awareness of the long-term trauma faced by survivors of sexual violence.
Tragic Ending
Levi had planned to meet a friend on the attack’s anniversary, but later cancelled. She was found dead the following day. An inquest could not determine if her overdose was accidental or intentional, leaving unanswered questions about her final moments.
