A casualty has been treated by air ambulance medics and taken to hospital after a major fire spread through gardens and involved two homes near Swindon. Emergency services were called to New Road in Chiseldon at 4.07pm on Saturday, August 8, following reports of a serious fire. Six fire engines were initially mobilised as the blaze involved a shed and trees before affecting an electricity pole and two domestic properties. Crews from Stratton, Swindon, Westlea, Chippenham and Cricklade attended, alongside Swindon’s aerial ladder platform and a support vehicle from Pewsey.
Air ambulance medics treat casualty
Great Western Air Ambulance medics were deployed to the incident and treated an injured casualty at the scene. The patient was subsequently taken to hospital by land ambulance. The nature of their injuries and their current condition have not been confirmed. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main lines and hose reel jets to bring the fire under control. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4:07pm to a property on New Road in Chiseldon, Swindon. “Six pumping appliances were initially mobilised from Stratton (x2), Swindon, Westlea, Chippenham and Cricklade along with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon and a support vehicle from Pewsey. “On arrival crews found a fire involving a shed, trees, an electricity pole and two domestic properties. “Firefighters in breathing apparatus used main lines and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. “One casualty has been reported and in the care of the ambulance service.” The extent of the damage to the two properties has not yet been confirmed.
