Chaos in Whitehall: 40 Protesters Arrested After Clashes with Police

Whitehall descended into chaos last night as police dragged away 40 protesters following violent clashes. Officers enforcing Public Order Act rules faced assaults, with six held for attacking cops. The rest were snatched up for breaking protest conditions.

Global Movement for Gaza UK Leads Rowdy Rally

The protest was organised by Global Movement for Gaza UK, a group campaigning against Israel’s Gaza blockade. This outfit is part of a wider international network and has stepped up UK protests after Israeli forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla earlier this week.

Police Crack Down Hard as Protesters Flout Orders

Met officers laid down strict rules to keep Whitehall roads clear and minimise disruption. But many demonstrators ignored the conditions, sparking tense face-offs. A police spokesperson said:

“Officers imposed Public Order Act conditions on the protest to keep roads open and prevent serious disruption. Regrettably, a significant number of those present were intent on breaching the conditions, leading to clashes with officers who moved in to enforce them. Forty people have been arrested. Six of those arrests were for assaults on police officers while the majority were for breaching conditions.”

Order Restored – But Cops Stay on High Alert

By nightfall, police had broken up the protest and Whitehall returned to normal. Officers confirmed they will maintain patrols to nip any fresh trouble in the bud.

The recent spike in attacks on officers shows rising tension in London as global conflicts spark local unrest. As ever, cops face the tough balancing act of keeping public safety without cracking down on protest rights.
