British Woman Struck by Lightning on Adriatic Beach, Fighting for Life
Drama unfolded at 3.15pm on Saturday when a 48-year-old British woman was hit by lightning on Kasjuni beach, Split, along Croatia’s stunning Adriatic coast. The strike left her seriously injured, and she is now battling for her life in hospital.
Lightning Strike Hits While Sunbathing
The woman was sunbathing with her daughter when a sudden thunderstorm rolled in. Witnesses saw lightning strike just above the beach, hitting the woman as she tried to reach shelter. She was knocked unconscious, sparking desperate cries from her daughter.
Quick-Thinking Medic Saves Her
Fortune favoured her when an on-call medic, who was treating a bike accident at a nearby triathlon, heard the screams and rushed to the scene. “The woman was struck close to the beach and fortunately one of our medics managed to revive her,” said a triathlon official. The medic stabilised her until paramedics arrived.
Authorities Launch Investigation
Police confirmed the woman is in critical condition and launched an investigation into the incident. “Lightning was seen striking the land above the beach,” said a police spokesperson. “All circumstances are being determined.”
UK Government Involved
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is assisting the British national and liaising with Croatian authorities.
