Car-Buying Scam Alert: Man’s Keys Swapped During Online Sale Viewing

Switched Keys Trick Leaves Seller on the Back Foot

Between 12pm and 1pm on Sunday 18 October, a man in his thirties invited three buyers to view a car he was selling online at his Marsh Road home. After the viewing, one man handed back a set of keys – but they weren’t the seller’s original ones.

It wasn’t until the buyers left that the victim noticed the sneaky switch. He called them to alert them, and they promised to return to buy the car. When they didn’t show, the owner moved the vehicle to a new location.

The original keys were stolen but have since been decommissioned to prevent misuse.

Police Hunt Three Suspects – Can You Help?

Police have released images of the men involved and are urging anyone with info to come forward. Detective Constable Lee Dix from oxford/" title="Oxford" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Oxford police said:

“I urge people to be vigilant when selling vehicles online and to always check they get their correct keys back after viewings.”

He added: “If you recognise the men or think it might be you, please contact us immediately.”
