Greenhithe Crackdown: Dispersal Order Hits Anti-Social Lake Trouble
Anti-Social Behaviour Sparks Police Action
A dispersal order is now in force across Greenhithe, targeting groups causing chaos around a local lake. The crackdown covers Castleridge Drive, Havelock Drive, and the lake area, running until 1.45pm on Thursday 17 June.
This tough measure was sparked by a whopping 56 complaints between Saturday 12 and Monday 14 June, reporting loud noise, reckless moped riding, and even threatening behaviour.
Damage and Disorder on the Rise
Officers say vandals have also wrecked a buoyancy aid, signs, and shrubs. The new powers allow police to disperse anyone suspected of stirring trouble. Ignore a request to leave, and you risk arrest.
Already, on Tuesday, cops broke up a youth gathering and seized a moped in a bid to restore peace.
Inspector Vows Zero Tolerance
“While we appreciate people want to enjoy the hot summer, it cannot be to the detriment of other people in the area,” said Inspector Sarah Rivett from the Dartford Community Safety Unit.
“Only a very small number of people engage in antisocial behaviour, but we’re not blind to the wide reaching impact it can have on the surrounding community. We have therefore implemented this order, and will not hesitate to take further action should the need arise.”
