Christmas Ruined as Burglar Steals All Presents from Family Home
A heartless break-in has shattered a Worksop family’s festive spirit. In the early hours of Tuesday, December 21, burglars smashed into a home on Manvers Street and stole every single Christmas present carefully wrapped and bagged for the big day.
The family, including two young children aged 11 and 12, have been left devastated with no gifts to open on Christmas morning. Full-time mum Samantha Headland, 36, pleaded for information, revealing how her kids have been left in tears by the callous crime.
‘They’ve Stolen the Magic of Christmas’
Samantha said: “How could they ruin our Christmas for our kids and invade our home like this? Even the Grinch stole Christmas but at least he brought it back. I’m not bothered if I don’t get any presents – it’s just my kids that matter.”
“It’s heartbreaking. They’ve taken the children’s presents and now there’s nothing for them to open. You can replace presents but you can’t replace the joy of the surprises.”
The house was left in a state after the raid. Boxes of sweets and chocolates were gobbled up, leaving a cruel mark on what should have been happy celebrations.
Burglars Scared Off After Mum Confronts Them
At around 2:50am, Samantha woke and heard whispering. Thinking it was her children, she called out, but quickly realised strangers were prowling her home.
“I said hello and heard swearing. Then two people ran past the bottom of the stairs and out the back,” she recalls. Samantha immediately called police, who arrived quickly.
The burglars had ransacked the downstairs and upstairs spare room, unplugging gadgets, rifling through gaming disks, and making off with every single wrapped gift. Even lateral flow tests for the kids’ return to school were stolen.
More Than Just Presents Taken
- £110 in cash, including money saved for Christmas treats
- Samsung watch and tablets
- Jewellery, including rings kept in a box
- Pain medication
- Alcohol bought for Christmas
Samantha admitted she felt vulnerable and scared even after the burglary. “I had my nephew stay over last night just to feel safe as my fiancé was at work.”
Police Appeal for Help
Superintendent Kevin Broadhead of Nottinghamshire Police said: “No child should wake up to an empty Christmas morning. This is a terrible invasion of a family’s home and peace of mind. We’re working hard to find those responsible and urge anyone with information to contact us.”
