Smoke Sparks Emergency on MV Pentalina in St Margaret’s Hope
The MV Pentalina has run aground at St Margaret’s Hope with 56 adults, three kids, and a baby safely onboard. Smoke was spotted in the engine room before the vessel came to a halt. Emergency teams rushed to the scene, and everyone aboard is unharmed.
Coastguard Takes Command Amid Smoke and Water Ingress
An Orkney Islands Council spokeswoman confirmed: “Our Marine Services and Emergency Planning teams are aware of the incident involving the Pentalina.” She added, “Emergency services are on site, with the Coastguard in command. We will provide updates and offer assistance as needed.”
RNLI Lifeboats and Emergency Crews Rush to Aid
The Pentalina had just recently returned to service, freeing up the MV Alfred to be leased to CalMac in the Pentland Firth. Several RNLI Lifeboats have been dispatched to assist following reports of fire and the ship taking on water.
Union Sounds Alarm Over Major Incident
An RMT spokesperson said: “We are aware of a major incident onboard the MV Pentalina which has run aground, taking on water with a fire in the engine room.”
