Fuel Theft Foiled in Canterbury
Police made a slick bust after spotting a dodgy car near the A2 late on Thursday, 17 November 2022. Lorry drivers had been shouting about fuel thefts in the area — and officers were out on patrol ready to catch the culprits.
Midnight Chase Ends in Fuel Haul
Just before midnight, patrols flagged down a suspicious vehicle. The moment it stopped, two suspects bolted into the night. Inside the abandoned car, officers found a stash of around 25 fuel containers. The vehicle was promptly seized.
PD Eli’s Nose Leads to Suspects
Police dog Eli wasn’t fooled. He tracked the scent through dark woods, leading his handler nearly two miles towards Chartham. The trail ended at a hidden container near Cockering Road, where two men, aged 29 and 31 from Canterbury, were found hiding.
Two Men Arrested and Released on Bail
The pair have been arrested on suspicion of theft. They’ve since been released on police bail until Monday, 28 November 2022, as enquiries continue.
