Brighton man caged for terrorising women with vile phone threats
Ameer Tahir, 41, from Kings Road, Brighton, bombarded female strangers with hundreds of obscene and threatening calls. Using a withheld number, he launched vile rape threats and horrifying sexual abuse threats at all hours.
Targeted attacks by name
Tahir didn’t just call randomly – he often addressed his victims by 1, making the stalking even more chilling. Despite hiding his number, police traced him down and arrested him at home on 5 December 2022.
Evidence found, bail ignored
- Police found a mobile phone linked directly to the calls during a property search.
- After release on bail, Tahir continued his sick campaign with a second phone found later.
- He faces 13 stalking charges, two counts of offensive communication, racial aggravation, failure to comply with sex offenders’ register, and possession of a Class B drug.
Guilty plea, sentencing awaits
In front of Lewes Crown Court on 16 January, Tahir pleaded guilty to all offences. His sentencing is due on 24 March.
Investigator Lucia Calandriello said: “Ameer Tahir terrorised his victims, many of whom had to change their daily routines, install CCTV cameras and 1 in fear of being watched or attacked.
“We received a huge number of reports in 2022, with offences stretching back to November 2021. I thank all victims for their bravery in helping secure this conviction.”
“We believe Tahir may have more victims who’ve yet to come forward. Anyone with information or suspicious calls from him should contact police quoting Operation Alder.”
