Newborn Baby Found Dead in Weston-super-Mare Garden
The Major Crime Investigation Team from Avon and Somerset Police is probing the tragic death of a newborn baby boy in Weston-super-Mare.
The baby’s body was discovered by a member of the public in a private garden on the morning of Saturday, 12 December.
Police Now Treat Death as Potential Homicide
Detective Chief Inspector James Riccio revealed the investigation has taken a grim turn. “Due to significant developments, we are now treating the baby’s death as a potential homicide,” he confirmed. A man and a woman have been arrested and are currently in custody for questioning.
“A forensic post-mortem is scheduled for later this week, but we do not expect conclusive results for some time,” DCI Riccio added.
Community Reassured Amid Tragic Case
DCI Riccio addressed local worries: “We understand this news will cause concern, especially given the tragic circumstances. While we are treating this as a possible homicide, we remain open-minded and guided strictly by the evidence.”
The police have praised the “wholly supportive” response from the Weston-super-Mare community and confirmed extra reassurance patrols in the area.
“Please approach officers if you have any concerns or questions. We are here to help,” said DCI Riccio.
