Tragedy in SE13: Five-Year-Old Dies in Suspected Arson Fire
Police rushed to a blazing house on Russett Way, SE13, at 5.56am on Saturday, 6 March after the London Fire Brigade reported a fire. The scene turned grim when a five-year-old boy was confirmed dead despite frantic emergency efforts.
Three Family Members Injured in Early Morning Blaze
Alongside the young boy, a 34-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy were hurt and taken to south London hospitals. Sadly, the little boy passed away just before 8am. All victims are related.
Deliberate Fire Suspected as Police Launch Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, leading the probe, said, “We’ve worked extensively with the London Fire Brigade and believe the fire was started deliberately. Besides the three family members inside, no one else was present, and a third party’s involvement is being ruled out.”
He added: “The wider family has been informed, and specialist officers are supporting them through this heartbreaking time.”
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Smith urged the public: “If you have any information, no matter how small, please contact us immediately. Help us understand what caused this tragic incident and provide answers for the family.”
