Swiss Woman Found Dead at Phuket Waterfall – Police Suspect Foul Play
A 57-year-old Swiss woman was discovered dead near Ao Yon waterfall in Phuket, sparking a murder probe. Her body was found face down in water amid rocks about one kilometre from the waterfall entrance on Thursday afternoon.
Grim Discovery by Local Man
Natthapong Seedam, 31, from tambon Wichit in Muang district, alerted police around 1.30pm after spotting the body. The woman, around 164cm tall, was partially covered with a black sheet, with only her feet visible above the water.
Signs of Assault and Belongings Left Behind
She wore a pink T-shirt, a jacket, and a silver-coin necklace. Police found her passport and a name card nearby. Scattered around the scene were jean shorts, a pantie, black Nike trainers, and a mobile phone.
Authorities estimate she had been dead for at least three days. Investigators suspect she was raped and murdered.
Tourist on Phuket Sandbox Scheme
The woman arrived at Phuket airport on July 13 under the government’s ‘Phuket Sandbox’ scheme—a plan to revive tourism on the island. Immigration officials confirmed she had come alone from Singapore and stayed at Dusit Thani Laguna Hotel until July 27 before moving to The Mooring Resort Hotel.
A witness last saw her leaving the hotel for the beach at about 2pm on Tuesday. She had previously visited Phuket in 2019 and recently left Chiang Mai for Singapore.
Police continue to investigate this shocking case as the island reels from the tragedy.
