Woman Bombards 999 with 165 Calls in Three Months!

A 51-year-old woman from Tilbury made a staggering 165 calls to 999 over just three months. Remarkably, none of her calls needed police intervention. Even worse, call handlers had to endure verbal abuse during these pointless calls.

Arrest Made Over False and Offensive Messages

Police finally arrested the woman yesterday. She’s suspected of sending false messages to cause annoyance and sending offensive communications. After questioning, she received a conditional caution.

Police Urge Public: Save 999 for Real Emergencies

Superintendent Jamie Gingell slammed the abuse and wasted calls. He said, “Our Force Control Room and Resolution Centre handle thousands of calls weekly, working hard to support those in genuine need.”

“I hope this arrest shows we won’t tolerate abuse or misuse of police time,” he added. “Too many 999 calls don’t need an emergency response, and 101 calls often face delays because of this.”

He urged the public to report non-urgent incidents online or use Live Chat instead. “#HelpUsHelpYou by calling 999 only in emergencies. For non-urgent crimes, use online reporting or phone 101.”

Most 999 Calls Could Be Reported Elsewhere

  • About 80% of 999 calls could be handled online or via 101.
  • Non-emergency issues like stolen vehicles, antisocial behaviour, and civil disputes can be reported online.
  • Historical crimes, lost property, or concerns can also be reported digitally.

By using these alternatives, emergency call staff are freed to help those in real trouble faster.
