Arson Probe launched after late night Southsea House Fire

A man has been arrested and Police have launched an arson probe following a fire at a property in Waverley road in Southsea. Three fire appliances from Southsea rushed to the the scene just after 11.30pm on Friday evening and were faced with a developing blaze. Police and Fire investigators remain at the property this morning as well as shocked neighbours who speak of their lucky escape. Two teams of fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the blaze. The flat has been badly damaged by the fire that had spread. One man was taken away by Police and he is now being questioned on suspicion of arson as to whether life was be endangered. Neighbours claim this is the second blaze to breaking at the property within a matter of days. A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said “We sent a number of fire resources to the scene long with a tactical advisor to the scene.” The spokesman went on to say that no one was injured in the blaze.
