Unsolved Surrey Murder: Police Renew Hunt for Karen Reed’s Killer

It’s been nearly 30 years since Karen Reed, 33, was savagely shot five times after opening her door to a man disguised as a pizza delivery driver on April 30, 1994. The brutal murder remains unsolved, but Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team haven’t given up.

Operation Lilac: Justice Still Out There

Known as Operation Lilac, the investigation was spotlighted on this morning’s Crimewatch Live. Detectives have released an e-fit of the suspected murderer and other key info, hoping to crack the cold case wide open.

“People out there know who killed Karen Reed,” said Deputy Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Gareth Hicks.

“Whether it’s the person who pulled the trigger or the ones who arranged the contract killing, it’s time to come forward.”

Mistaken Identity? Contract Killing Mystery

Karen was “an innocent young woman” with no criminal ties, says DI Hicks, who believes she was the tragic victim of a contract hit gone wrong. Police suspect mistaken identity played a role.

“Those with information might now feel able to speak up as loyalties and relationships have changed over the years. We urge them to do the right thing,” Hicks added.
