Gas Explosion Rocks Southall Flat Above Chicken Shop
A roaring suspected gas explosion tore through the top-floor flat above a chicken takeaway on Western Road, Southall, just before 1:30pm today. The blast sent debris crashing onto the street below, sparking chaos and fear.
Three Hospitalised as Emergency Services Rush In
Three people – two men and a woman – fled the blaze before firefighters arrived and have been rushed to hospital. Their current condition remains unknown. Paramedics are also treating others at the scene.
London’s Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade quickly evacuated nearby homes and businesses as a safety precaution. The road remains sealed off in both directions at the junction with Old Manor Road, with police warning locals to steer clear.
Building Severely Damaged After Fire and Partial Collapse
Fire crews from Southall, Feltham, and neighbouring stations battled a fierce fire that broke out after the explosion. Part of the building’s first floor and roof has partially collapsed, suffering major structural damage.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson revealed that six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the incident, which started just after 1:27pm and was brought under control by 4:05pm.
“Crews worked fast in a tough situation to extinguish the fire,” said Station Commander Simon Horn. “Our Urban Search and Rescue team carried out a thorough search and confirmed everyone is accounted for. But a 50-metre safety cordon remains in place. We urge people to avoid the area.”
Investigation Underway as Community Watches On
Police and fire officials continue their probe into the cause of the explosion. Meanwhile, residents and businesses face ongoing disruption as road closures stay in effect and emergency crews maintain a heavy presence.
The London Fire Brigade received eight emergency calls about the blast and is working closely with the police and London Ambulance Service to manage the response.
