Man in life-threatening condition after Hackney hit-and-run crash

Early Morning Crash Shocks Hackney

Detectives are urgently hunting witnesses after a serious collision in Hackney left a 60-year-old pedestrian fighting for his life.

The smash happened just after 5.25am on Tuesday, 8 April, at the junction of New North Road and Mintern Street. A car hit the man, who was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. No arrests have been made.

Police Plea for Witnesses

Detective Constable Bruce White, leading the investigation, appealed directly to the public. He said:

“Our thoughts remain with the man who was injured and his family at this difficult time.”

He urged anyone around between 5.30am and 6am to come forward.

“If you were commuting to work or live nearby and saw anything, or caught it on dashcam or doorbell camera, please contact us.”
