A quiet Gillingham street was thrown into chaos in the early hours of Friday when armed police swooped on a property on Richmond Road. Residents were ordered back inside as officers with MP5 submachine guns and full-face masks took control just after 5.30am.
The dramatic scene, described by locals as “like something out of the Bronx,” left many stunned. One resident said, “I’ve never seen anything like it. The road is usually full of students, so we’re all wondering what’s going on.”
Not a planned raid – police respond to urgent call
A police source confirmed the raid wasn’t pre-planned but a sudden response to concerns about a person at the property and the possible presence of a weapon. Staff at nearby Burnt Oak School were told to keep out and some couldn’t enter to open up for early-arriving teachers.
One school worker revealed they had to call around all staff to inform them about the police operation.
