Asda in Biggin Hill Shut After Strong Fuel Smell Sparks Panic
The Asda supermarket in Biggin Hill was temporarily closed this morning after a strong smell of fuel raised alarm bells. Fire engines were spotted outside, sparking fears of a possible fuel leak.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
Locals reported the closure early in the day. Witness Paige Reeves said,
“We were closed this morning due to a strong smell of fuel in the shop. Think all is well now.”
Community members took to social media with their own sightings. Sheni Brazil-Oakins remarked,
“There were fire engines all outside the shop this morning when I passed.”
Sarah Connolly added,
“I saw earlier this morning it was closed with three fire engines, was opened but closed again with fire engines there.”
Store Reopens After Quick Resolution
Despite initial worries, the shop has since reopened. Nat Williams confirmed,
“There was a possible fuel leak, so they had to close it. But back open now.”
Customers reported the fuel smell caused the brief shutdown. Suzanne Rhule said,
“We are here now, it’s not closed. Just filled up with petrol.”
No Injuries, Safety Reassured
No injuries have been reported, and the exact cause of the fuel smell remains unclear. The London Fire Brigade has yet to issue an official statement but confirmed there are no ongoing safety concerns.
Locals joked on social media that the smell might have come from fuel deliveries or even a “hazardous breaking of wind” during refuelling.
This incident highlights the importance of quick emergency response and strict safety measures. The Asda in Biggin Hill is now fully operational, with no further issues reported.
