Driver with 24 Points Caught on Expired Licence at Stafford Services – Car Seized!

Licence Expired, Insurance Missing – Driver Busted

A driver racking up a whopping 24 penalty points was caught behind the wheel on an expired licence at Stafford Services on the M6. Police swooped on the Audi after discovering the motorist couldn’t produce valid insurance either. The vehicle was promptly seized.

Staffordshire Police’s road crime unit revealed the shocking details on X (formerly Twitter):

“This Audi was stopped at Stafford Services. The driver was driving on his expired driving licence with a grand total of 24 points. The driver was unable to produce a certificate of insurance. Driver reported and vehicle seized.”

How Did Someone with 24 Points Still Drive?

Under UK law, accumulating 12 points within three years usually triggers a driving ban through the “totting up” system. Yet, this driver dodged the ban. Some manage to avoid disqualification by proving losing their licence would cause “exceptional hardship,” like losing their job.

New drivers aren’t so lucky — six points in the first two years means an automatic licence loss under the New Drivers Act.

Police Intensify Road Safety Clampdown

This seizure forms part of a tough police crackdown on dangerous and illegal driving across the region. Officers warn all drivers: Always carry a valid licence and insurance or face stiff penalties and losing your vehicle.

The driver will likely face further legal action. No more details have been released at this stage.
