Man and Boy Dead After Devastating Newcastle Flat Explosion

Northumbria Police have named the man who died in a massive blast at a block of flats in Benwell, Newcastle. Jason Laws, 34, was found dead at the scene after the early-morning explosion on Wednesday, 16 October, on Violet Close.

Two Lives Lost, Several Injured

Emergency crews also discovered the body of seven-year-old Archie York, who tragically died in the blast. Six others, including five adults and a child, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Archie’s heartbroken parents paid tribute to their son, calling him “not only our son but our best friend.”

Homes Reduced to Rubble as Investigation Continues

The explosion caused widespread destruction, leaving homes in ruins and sparking a major emergency response. Northumbria Police and fire services are combing the scene with forensic experts to uncover what caused the blast. A large cordon remains in place, which is expected to stay for some time.

Next of Kin Supported, Residents Warned

Police confirmed that Jason Laws’ family are receiving support from specially trained officers during this heartbreaking time. Residents in the area have been advised to steer clear while investigations carry on.
