Crash Chaos on Isle of Wight! Emergency crews rushed to a nasty collision between a car and a motorcycle at Apse Heath on the Isle of Wight this lunchtime, Saturday, March 30th. The smash happened just before 12.30pm on Newport Road, sandwiched between Raj’s Premier store and the Morrison’s roundabout.
Firefighters Fear Rider Trapped
A fire crew from the Island’s fire service arrived to secure the scene amid fears someone might be trapped. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance also scrambled to treat those involved.
Road Closed, Traffic Gridlock
Hampshire Constabulary shut down Newport Road, causing traffic jams in both directions. The closure is expected to last a while as investigations and emergency work continue.
Two Injured and Airlifted to Hospital
Two people have been taken to hospital – one by land ambulance, while the biker was airlifted by helicopter. Thankfully, the silver car’s driver, initially thought to be trapped, escaped without firefighters needing to cut them free. They were also rushed to St Mary’s Hospital.
