‘Brother and Sister’ Found Dead in South East London Home

A man and a woman, reportedly brother and sister, have tragically died after being discovered with serious injuries at a home in Holstein Way, Thamesmead.

Emergency services were called to the property just before 3 pm on March 11 after concerns were raised about the occupants’ welfare. Upon arrival, officers found the pair seriously injured; they were pronounced dead at the scene.

A police source confirmed  that the deceased were siblings, with the woman reported to be in her 40s.

Neighbour Lucy Francis described the woman as a recluse, recalling: “It is a shame we didn’t have much contact really. The last time I saw her was a year ago when she was being stretchered out of her flat with a suspected overdose. Her brother was clearly upset after the incident, especially as their mother had died previously.”

Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, leading the investigation, stated: “I know many residents in the local area will be questioning why police are carrying out enquiries within Holstein Way. We are currently investigating the death of two people, which was unexpected and unexplained.

“At this early stage, we believe the two individuals were known to each other and are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident at this time.”

Neighbours expressed shock over the tragic incident. Local resident Eseoghtene Keremu noted: “It is really shocking and sad. It isn’t like something like this happens all the time around here. We are a close community.”

Neighbour Russell Wibb added that the woman “kept herself to herself,” pointing out issues with the property’s intercom system that could have prevented health visitors from reaching her in the past.

The victims’ next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. A crime scene remains in place, with police enquiries ongoing to determine the circumstances of the deaths.
