Major Gas Leak Prompts Evacuations in Canary Wharf

 

Emergency services are on scene after a major gas leak was reported on Manchester Road in the Isle of Dogs this morning Saturday 9th August 2025.

Police, firefighters and utility engineers have cordoned off the affected area, with some residents evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

Witnesses described a strong smell of gas in the air, warning others to take care when passing through.

Local resident Lana Libra told UKNIP:

“Massive gas leak Manchester Road, police, fire brigade — the lot. People evacuated… it smells bad. Let’s hope it can get resolved soon and people can go back to their homes.”

The cause of the leak is not yet known, and emergency crews remain at the scene working to make the area safe.

Residents are advised to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed until further notice.
