Police Crackdown Targets Seven Venues
Kent Police’s licensing team joined forces with Medway’s Community Safety Unit and Special Constables for a major swoop on Friday, 16 September 2022. Seven pubs across Gillingham, Twydall, and Strood were targeted in a decisive move against drug crime.
Sniffer Dogs Sniff Out Drugs
Two star drug-detection dogs, PD Hudson and PD Dougal, played a key role in the operation. Their noses led officers to stash spots in various venues where drugs were hidden.
Strood Pub Yields Cocaine and Cannabis Haul
In one Strood pub, officers seized cannabis and found 35 bags of suspected cocaine tucked away on a window ledge in a function room. A 44-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Further searches of a nearby property uncovered more suspected cocaine and evidence of dealing. The man has been released pending further inquiries.
More Drugs Found Across Twydall and Gillingham Pubs
Officers discovered five bags of suspected cocaine and signs of drug use in toilet areas at a Twydall pub. Two Gillingham pubs also revealed hidden caches of suspected cocaine during the sweep.
Medway Police Issue Stern Warning
“The message is very simple; expect to be caught if you are carrying drugs and expect to face the consequences,” said Chief Inspector Shona Lowndes, Medway district commander.
“By running these operations regularly, we remind lawbreakers that officers can strike anywhere, anytime. Illegal activity won’t be tolerated.
“Our visible presence helps identify persistent offenders, deter crime, and make Medway a safer place to live and visit.”
