Serial Card Thief Targets Pensioners at Supermarket ATMs
A brazen thief is on the loose after ripping off an elderly man at a South London Sainsbury’s cash point – then making off in a car with cloned plates.
Shady Snatch at Bell Green
Just before midday on Friday, September 23, a man in his 70s was using the cash machine on Southend Lane, Bell Green, SE26, when an unknown suspect struck. The crook distracted the victim with a piece of paper, then shoved past him and nicked his bank card.
The villain escaped in a vehicle later found to be sporting a cloned number plate. The victim soon found out two bogus transactions drained over £8,000 from his account.
Linked Raids Across London
Police believe this robbery is tied to three more ATM card thefts at supermarkets across London, with a total haul of thousands of pounds:
- September 29 – Streatham High Street, Lambeth (£2,000 stolen)
- September 28 – Nuxley Road, Belvedere (£500 stolen)
- September 23 – Baring Road, Bromley (£2,825 stolen)
Officers have released CCTV images of a suspect they want to quiz about the spree.
