East London Doctor Assaulted After Being Followed on DLR – Police Release CCTV
Detectives hunting a suspect in a serious east London assault have released CCTV footage of a man they want to identify. Officers are also keen to speak to two men who the victim briefly walked with, hoping for safety.
Doctor Followed on DLR, Then Attacked
On the evening of Friday, 17 April, a 37-year-old NHS doctor was waiting at Shadwell DLR Station around 6:15pm when she noticed a stranger tailing her on the platform. Alarmed, she boarded the train – only for the man to follow.
In a desperate attempt to shake him off, she got off at Canning Town station and reboarded. Still, the man mirrored her moves.
When she got off at Royal Victoria, the suspect kept pursuing. Fearful, she asked two unknown men to walk with her for part of her journey. Even then, the man didn’t back off.
Attack on Butchers Road
The two men parted ways, and as the doctor walked alone along Butchers Road, E16, she phoned the police. Suddenly, the suspect came from behind and pushed her to the ground.
She was rushed to hospital with cuts, bruising, injuries to her mouth, and a broken tooth.
Suspect Description and Police Appeal
The attacker, described as a black man in his early 20s, wore grey jogging bottoms, a grey hoodie under a dark jacket, and a dark cap. After the assault, he headed back towards Royal Victoria DLR Station.
Detective Constable Alister Kim said:
“We have no reason to believe this attack was targeted at the victim because she is a doctor or NHS worker. The victim endured a terrifying ordeal, being followed and attacked despite seeking help. We urgently need the public’s help to identify this man.”
He added:
“If you spotted anything on the trains or the stations at Shadwell, Canning Town, or Royal Victoria, or saw the victim with the two men on her way home, please come forward. CCTV also shows the suspect near Commercial Road and Sidney Street before the incident.”
